Five NFL contenders with easiest paths to playoffs: Lions, Ravens poised to return to postseason

In a perfect world, every NFL team would play the same caliber of schedule and thus face a level playing field on the road to the postseason. The scheduling model does not work that way. Take last year’s New England Patriots, for instance. They held the worst strength of schedule in the league, according to FPI. It is no coincidence they made a Super Bowl run.

That is an extreme example, but a little scheduling luck can help push a talented roster over the hump and maximize its potential. Then there is the flip side. Sometimes the strongest teams face the toughest

While the Giants remain in search of their first playoff appearance since Schoen’s debut season, they enter 2026 with momentum and clearly want to give Schoen a chance to see things through with the promising players he added over the last couple of years.

The extension, however, figures to draw mixed

The first major waves of free agency have come and gone. So, too, has the 2026 NFL Draft and even the schedule release.

As teams introduce their rookies to the pros, they’re also looking to improve on the periphery. Not every roster hole was filled in March and April, after all, and there’s a notable advantage to signing free agents after the NFL Draft: They no longer count against the NFL’s compensatory picks formula. That may result in a slight uptick after the draft, but in all likelihood, we’ll see signings continue slowly into the summer

It took three periods for them to find themselves, but

These seven teams are most likely to need a QB in the 2027 NFL Draft — and the timing may be perfect

What the 2026 NFL Draft class lacked in quarterback talent, the 2027 crop of prospects promises to make up for. With Arch Manning, Dante Moore and a host of other exciting arms set to make the leap from college next spring, NFL teams in need of a franchise signal-caller should view next year’s draft as the jackpot.

Only the Las Vegas Raiders took a potential plug-and-play starter in the 2026 NFL Draft, and even then, Fernando Mendoza might have to wait at least a few games behind Kirk Cousins. Next year, more than just a couple of teams could have starting
